Indonesia Raises Target for Exports to China to US$70bn

Jakarta – Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade has set this year’s target for export value to China at US$65 billion to US$70 billion. The figure is higher by 2.5 percent compared to last year.

“In 2024, we increase the export target by an average of 2.5 percent to reach US$65 billion to US$70 billion,” Director General of National Export Development Didi Sumedi said at his office in Jakarta, Thursday, January 4.

Didi said he was confident that the target would be achieved despite China’s current economic weakness. He referred to the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) prediction that trade volume to China will rise in 2024.

To boost trade with China, the Ministry of Trade has added several programs, including exhibiting Indonesian products in China in exhibitions to be held in Fujian and Guangzhou Provinces.

According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), China was Indonesia’s top non-oil and gas export destination country in November 2023 with a total value of US$5.41 billion, followed by India with US$2.01 billion and the USA with US$1.94 billion.
